Highlights
  • With the able guidance of eight Research Guides, 63 scholars were conferred with Ph.D. degree and 142 students were awarded M.Phil.
  • Carried out one Major and Twelve Minor research projects with the sponsorship of ` 8,93,325 from UGC.
  • Organised Five National Level Seminars/ conferences/workshops with the sponsorship of ` 3,25,000 from UGC, ICSSR and IMPRESS. These Conferences, Seminars, Workshop were conducted on the various dates such as 01.09.2005, 02.09.2005, 22.09.2011, 23.09.2011, 03.07.2014, 04.07.2014, 05.07.2014, 07.02.2018, 08.02.2018, 02.04.2019 and 03.04.2019.
  • Organised an International Conference on the title ‘Human Resource Strategies: Paradigm Shift in the Globalised Scenario’ on 18.02.2022.
  • Organised an International Conference on the title ‘Recent Developments and Innovations in Social Science, Arts and Humanities’ on 22.04.2022.
  • Organised an Inter Departmental Seminar on Awareness about commodity Derivatives sponsored by Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on 03.10.2024.
  • Ms.Hema Meena, Ms.R.Vallimayil, Ms.N.Lakshmi Priya and Ms.M.Regina Mary carried out four students’ projects with the sponsorship of ` 20,000 from TNSCST.
  • Publication of six books with ISBN added feather to the cap.
  • The faculty members of the Department held responsible positions like Vice Principal, Dean, Additional Dean, Controller of Examinations and IQAC Coordinator of the institution.
  • The students of Commerce were also elected and nominated as Chairman, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Ministers in the College Union. The empirical activities of the Department enabled the learners to come out successfully as academic achievers, the recipients of Sagalakalavalli Award, Best Orator Award, Best Dancer Award and Best Sports Woman Award, University Blues, champions, qualified entrants into higher education, qualified employees of an organisation, blossoming women entrepreneurs, concerning alumnae and responsible citizens.
  • Financial assistance from Commerce Cornucopia-Alumnae Fund and Rani - Sathiavan assistance by the former Professor of the Department to the deserving students is the unique healthy practice of the Department of Commerce.
  • Silver Jubilee Celebrations from 7.8.2003 to 9.8.2003, Ruby Jubilee Celebrations from 27.12.2018 to 29.12.2018 and VVVC Ruby M.Com. on 18.11.2022 were the sparking moments to strengthen our Alumnae Association by joining the hands with our Alumnae. Since 2004-2005, VVVC COM Alumnae Meeting was conducted in the department every year in the afternoon after the college alumnae meet.
  • Commerce - Fifty in Commemoration of Introduction of Commerce in Pre-University Course (1974-2024) on celebrated on 01.03.2024. Dr. J. Caroline, Former Head, Department of Commerce was the Guest of Honour.
  • Relevant significant days (Yoga day, Music day, Onam day, Teacher’s day, Bharathiyar Birthday, Postal week celebration, and so on) are observed with guest lecture, role play, debate, speech by students, skit, etc.
  • Memorandum of Undertaking has been signed with The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Sivakasi, Ainthiram Trust, Virudhunagar, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Madurai, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Madurai, Environmental Advisory for Sustainable Trust, Tirunelveli. The activities such as International Conference, Foundation course in ACS, Workshop, Staff Student Exchange Programme, Coaching class for CMA and Awareness on central government schemes.
  • Since 2007-2008, VVVC COMFEST - a one day Inter-collegiate Seminar cum meet has been organised for the P.C.KANNAN-JANAKI ROLLING SHIELD.
  • Since 2007-2008, Citizen Consumer Forum is functioning effectively and continuously received I and III prize from District Collectorate.
  • Since 2023-2024, VVVC COM Nipunaa – Commerce Skill lab is functioning to exhibit the talents of our alumna and to develop the skills of our students.
  • Since 2022-2023, VVVC COM GNAN is organising a Five Days Multi- disciplinary workshop on Research Methodology.
