DBT Star College Scheme

              V.V.Vanniaperumal College for Women is an autonomous institution affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamilnadu offers quality education to rural women folk since its inception in 1962. It has been re-accredited with “A” Grade (3rd Cycle) by NAAC.
              The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi has initiated “Star College Scheme” in our college in September 2020 and sanctioned the total project cost of Rs.123.00 lakhs for a period of 3 years with the release amount of Rs.81.00 lakhs as I instalment for the year 2020-2021 as financial assistance for strengthening the Life Science and Biotechnology Education and Training at the undergraduate level. The purpose of this scheme is to promote the academic fervour of the learners by strengthening the physical infrastructure in laboratories and class rooms. It will provide good exposure to the students to get wider knowledge in science subjects through hands on training, summer training, industrial and Research Centres visits. It encourages the students to do minor research projects for promoting their intellectual calibre through critical thinking, creativity and innovation. It also has an aim to encourage the Faculty to keep pace with the latest technologies and to optimize the technical capabilities through Faculty Improvement Programme and to devise standard curricula. To implement this scheme, the DBT has selected six Science Departments of our college including,

  • ♣ Department of Chemistry
  • ♣ Department of Zoology
  • ♣ Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
  • ♣ Department of Botany & Biotechnology and
  • ♣ Department of Biochemistry

Objectives:
  • To strengthen the academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching and training.
  • To enhance the quality of the learning and teaching process to stimulate original thinking through ‘hands–on’ exposure to experimental work and participation in summer schools.
  • To promote networking and strengthening the ties with neighbouring institutions and other laboratories
  • To conduct special training programmes for faculty improvement for optimizing technical capabilities.
  • To increase capabilities of core instrumentation resources by procuring new equipment and upgrading of existing facilities.
  • To provide access and exposure to the students to research laboratories and industries in the country.
  • To help in devising standard curricula and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) / kits for practical works.
  • To provide best library facility to the students and the teachers
