Department of English (Self)

Vision
  • To empower the students with knowledge and skills and mould them into competent individuals with confidence to face challenges in life.
Mission
  • To chisel the creative and critical faculties of the students through in-depth study of English literary texts, to instill a fervor for research endeavors and to strengthen their linguistic competency for employability and better living.
History of the Department
  • Since its inception in 1995, Department of English (S.F.), has been gradually progressing from offering only Part II English to offering the UG programme, B.A. English in 2011, and the extension of additional section in 2017. The Department lends its hand to the Department of English (Aided) in organizing Seminars/Conferences, Communication Skills Programme for fresher, Syllabus preparation. The Intercollegiate competitions, REGALIA, is conducted every year by the department. Various literary association activities such as Literary Scene Display, Spell Bee Contest, Quiz, Essay Writing, Story Writing, Slogan Writing, and Stage Performance were conducted for the skill development of the students. Besides this the department issues a magazine, ‘Student Davenport’, compiling the articles prepared by the students, annually. With the future plan of introducing PG programme, Department of English (S.F.) functions its task with passion and aspiration.

2019 – 2020
  • Twenty-five students from our department got placed in various companies in campus interview as English Language Trainers, Handwriting Trainers and Business Development Officers.
  • Nine students from our department presented their research papers in the national seminar on ‘Short Stories around the World’ organized by V.H.N.S.N College, Virudhunagar.
  • Ms.M.Sivaneka of III B.A. English (SF) was rewarded with cash award in Leadership Award Programme conducted by Rotary Club of Virudhunagar.
  • Ms.S.Bharathi of III B.A. English (SF) won the second prize in Dance drama in the Inter-Collegiate Competitions organized by Fatima College, Madurai on the theme ‘South Asian Literature’.
  • Our students won the first prize in Short Story Writing, Tableau, Rangoli, Mono Act and Modal Display and the second prize in Face Painting in ‘Lit Faire – 2020’ - Inter-Collegiate Competitions organized by Saiva Bhanu Kshatriya College, Aruppukottai.
2020 - 2021

  • Twenty of our students got placed as Language Trainers in Smart English Institute through the job fair conducted in the college.
  • Ms.K.Krishnaveni of III B.A. English (SF) won the third prize in essay writing competition conducted by Sri Padmanaban Kalvi Trust, Chengalpattu.

  • Dr.K.M.Keerthika served as the Chief Guest for the Language Club Inauguration held on 04 October 2023 at Mohamed Sathak Engineering College and delivered a special address on “Importance of English Language.”
  • Dr.K.M.Keerthika received an Award from Cosmic Inception Publication under the category Emerging Star Award 2023, for securing in top 100 national writers in India in the field of writing.
  • Dr.K.M.Keerthika received an Iconic Award 2023 from Covai Chronicles and The Global Ties under the category Mentor of the Year for Students Development.
  • Mrs.A.Poornima Devi successfully completed an 8-week NPTEL online course titled “Gender and Literature.”
