Vision
  • The department of English (Self) endeavours to nurture the passion for language and literature in students by inculcating creative and critical thinking through innovative pedagogy.
Mission
  • The overall mission of the department is to promote critical literacy by training the students to read with clarity and to write with authority. Our department is committed in teaching the students the interpretation of any literature or text critically by adopting the diverse aspects of social, cultural and historical background with the mastery of the English language. Bringing together the polars “Tradition and Technology”, we aim to teach our prodigies with the objective of bridging the gap between spiritual and utilitarian aspects.
History of the Department
  • Since its inception in 1995, Department of English (S.F.), has been gradually progressing from offering only Part II English to preferring the UG programme, B.A. English in 2011, and the extension of additional section in 2017. The Department lends its hand to the Department of English (Aided) in organizing Seminars/Conferences, Bridge course for fresher, Syllabus preparation. The Department conducts various literary association activities such as Literary Scene Display, Spell Bee Contest, Quiz, Essay Writing, Story Writing, Slogan Writing, and Stage Performance, and supports the students to participate in Intercollegiate Competitions held in other colleges. Besides this the department issues a magazine, ‘Student Davenport’, compiling the articles prepared by the students, annually. With the future plan of introducing PG programme, Department of English (S.F.) functions its task with passion and aspiration.

  • To establish a friendly and vibrant learning environment for students.
  • To instill innovative teaching through language lab, literary clubs, extra-curricular and Co- curricular activities.
  • To encourage activity based learning such as peer teaching, literary display, seminar and assignments.

  • Miss. P. Vithya – III B.A. Eng (SF) - ‘B’ Section secured Fourth position in Basketball organised by Madurai Kamaraj University at V.V.Vanniaperumal College for Women, Virudhunagar on 12th and 13th of September 2019.
  • Nine students from the department of English (self) presented papers on the National Level Seminar entitled “Short Stories of the World in English” conducted by V.H.N. Senthikumara Nadar College, Virudhunagar on 20/09/2019.
  • The students of Department of English won Overall III position in Neo-Idola Intercollegiate Competition conducted by Sri Kaleeswari College, Sivaksasi at 04.09.2018.
