Vision
  • To empower rural young women through quality education in the field of Chemical Sciences with both theoretical and technical knowledge to pursue higher education to fulfill the regional, national and global demands.

History of the Department
  • The Department of Chemistry became a full-fledged department with the beginning of degree course in the year 1977. The Department offers B.Sc. (Chemistry) under the Choice Based Credit and Semester System with Mathematics/Botany and Physics as allied courses. It has 42 golden years of glorious history to its credit. This is one of the largest science departments of the college with a well equipped laboratory, furnished storeroom and three spacious classrooms.
Highlights of the Department
  • Introduction of environment friendly microscale experiments in organic analysis to reduce pollution and requirement of chemicals.
  • Harvesting rain water in chemistry laboratory and demineralising it using ion-exchanger for usage as distilled water in science laboratories.
  • Presenting papers at Regional, National and International level conferences by the faculty members .
  • Visiting various industries as field trips.
  • Celebrating National days by students under the guidance of the faculty.
  • Organising Interdepartmental course on "Processing of consumer products".
  • Encouraging students to undergo summer training projects/ workshops in various scientific institutions.
  • Exposing the students to the latest trends in chemistry by organizing a series of guest lecturers every academic year.
  • Waste water treatment plant is installed before the Chemistry lab.
  • Department of Chemistry receives grant from DBT Star College Scheme from 2020-2023 for strengthening the infrastructure of UG Departments.

  • Water Quality Analysis lab is functioning from 2021 onwards.
  • Our Department renewed MoU with SRNM College, Sattur from 2023 to 2026 for staff and student exchange programme, in the context of professional training and knowledge empowerment programmes for the students of both institutions.
  • Our Department made an MoU with Pasumark Oil mills, Virudhunagar from 2022 onwards for internship and project work.
  • Our department collaborated with MKU & Saraswathy Narayanan College, Madurai to carry out project work and for invited lectures.
  • Received project grant from TNSCST and VVVC managing board.
  • Offered laboratory training to Government and Government aided School students.
  • Empowerment of adopted village people by offering entrepreneurship skill training.

  • G.Valarmathi and M.Dhivya Bharathi received Sakalakalavalli Award for Social Activity and Artwork respectively in the academic year 2022-2023 from our institution.
  • G.Valarmathi received Chinna Kalaivaanar Award in 2022 from Global Books of Records.
  • V.Iswarya Arumugalakshmi qualified IIT-JAM Examination in 2023.
