Department of Physics (Self)

Vision
  • To awaken the young minds and discover their talents by providing a skilful learning experience and to develop analytical and problem-solving skills and give them a wide range of career choice.
Mission
  • To impact theoretical and experimental knowledge in Physics as well as to infuse the spirit of inquiry and research for personal and professional development with ethical values.
History of the Department
  • M.Sc. Physics and B.Sc. Electronics are offered as self-finance courses from the year 1995 and 1996 respectively. Later B.Sc. Electronics was converted into B.Sc. E & C in the year 2006.B.Sc. Physics with Mathematics and Chemistry as ancillary subjects is offered under self-finance stream from 2017. The Department has well equipped Physics and electronics laboratories for UG and PG programmes.

  • The Department of Physics conducts ‘NATIONAL GRADUATE PHYSICS EXAMINATION’ (NGPE) organized by IAPT – Indian Association of Physics Teachers every year since 1998 as our College center with code G – 6157 to improve the quality of the students.
  • The Department encourages postgraduate students to take up their project work under Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) Student Project scheme.
  • The Department Periodically organizes guest lectures, workshops, Hand-on Training programmes to enrich subject knowledge and research skills amidst students.
  • The Department Organizes Intercollegiate Meet “RAINBOW” every year.
  • The Department celebrates World Space Week and National Science Day every year.
  • In hands with Department of Physics (Aided), students engage themselves in extension activities to reach the needy people.
  • The Department renders the support & motivation to student participation in International, National & Regional levels seminars/conferences/competitions with the help of the college managing board.
  • Students are guided to expand their subject knowledge / acquire skills in their field of interest by exploring them to different e-learning platforms (NPTEL, Coursera, Pluralsight).
