Our vision is to produce highly qualified and competent students in all areas of the Microbiology. To empower students by developing human capabilities through quality education, making them responsible citizens who can work for the advancement of the society.

Mission

To produce skilled graduates to be lifelong learner by offering solid theoretical and practical foundations in various disciplines of Microbiology and educating them about their professional and ethical responsibilities.

History of the Department

The greatest strides of glory and victory of our department mainly revolve round the unparalleled and unselfish efforts of the Faculty members and students for the Departmental advancements. Our Department was established and commenced their notable service on 1998. It has been expanding in quality and quantity every year and this year, the strength of the students is 125. The staff, with high academic qualification and a sense of dedication and devotion facilitate quality education.
The Department of Microbiology also offers a Institution Oriented Certificate Course in Medical Cosing.

Highlights of the Department

Value added course – Biofertilizer Production is conducted as Departmental course for every year to inculcate Entrepreneurship in young minds.
Biofertilizers Phosphobacteria and Azospirillium is produced and distributed every year to the farmers of nearby villages and creating awareness on to avoid chemical fertilizers for protecting our generations from diseases.
Departmental magazine “MICROS MACRO THOUGHTS” run by the students of Microbiology every year.
Our Microbiology department act as a consultant for ‘PAVALAM AGENCIES’ General Merchants at Virudhunagar by testing their cashew nut samples according to various parameters such as TLC, Coliforms, Staphylococcus sp, and Salmonella.
On behalf of our Department, we had analyzed the quality of drinking water used in our campus for students’ purpose. Based upon our result analysis the college was taken remedial measures to improve the quality of drinking water used in our campus.
Our Department offers one Value added course "Biofertilizer Production" & "Microbial Protein Production" at Departmental level for our Second year & First year students respectively. And also offers Interdepartmental Value added course “ Food Microbiology & Quality Control” for outgoing students of various departments.
In collaboration with NGO, our department service is being extended to the farmers of nearby Sivagnanapuram and Chathirareddiapatti Village through the distribution of Biofertilizer packets and also creates awareness among farmers about the importance of Eco friendliness to our environment as well as the dangerous hazards of using chemical pesticides.
On behalf of our Department, we had analyzed the quality of drinking water used in our campus for student’s purpose. Based upon our result analysis the college managing board was taken remedial measures to improve the quality of drinking water used in our campus.
Under Association activities, Guest lecture by eminent Microbiologists ,Entreprenuer Skill Development Programme and Career development programme are being conducted for our students.
In collaboration with JCI Sakthi Kamarajar, Virudhunagar, Microbiology Department organized Career Development Programme “Future Challenges for Youth” on 09/09/2022. About 40 students of III B.Sc. Microbiology were participated and they gained knowledge about the mode of facing their career interviews and life problems in future.
Since 2019, World Immunization Day was celebrated in Microbiology department in the month of March . In connection with that Rally Programme was organized, about 120 students of Microbiology were participated and created awareness among our College students by presenting posters and saying slogans on the importance of vaccination to generate healthy India. In connection with World Immunization Day celebration Inter departmental competitions were organized by Department of Microbiology.

State level seminar on "Recent scenario in biological innovations" was held on 1st February 2012.
Biofertilizers Phosphobacteria and Azospirillum was produced and sold on 26th February 2012 at Golden Jubilee Carnival.
Departmental Magazine "MICROS MACRO THOUGHTS" run by our students every year.
State level Intercollegiate Meet "BIOMEET 2017" was organized by Department of Microbiology& Biotechnology on 16th February 2017.
Intercollegiate Meet "PANIS AGON 2017" was organized with Department of Zoology, Botany & Biotechnology on 12th December 2017.
The departments of Chemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology were organized a one day workshop for water analysis on 31.01.2019. Our Microbiology department was analyzed the presence of microbes in twelve number of drinking water samples for various companies.
National Symposium on “Emerging Viral Infectious Diseases” organized by the Departments of Biochemistry (PG), Microbiology and Biotechnology on 31.07.2019.
Every year Under Departmental Value added Course, Biofertilizer packs (Azospirillum & Phosphobacteria) were prepared and donated to village farmers of Sengundrapuram and Chatrarediiyapatti,
Department of Microbiology Conducted Institutional Certificate course on Medical coding for Life Science students Since 2021 Under MoU Signed with MediTech Solutions, Coimbatore.
Under the activity of Institutional oriented certificate Course “Medical coding” the placement drive was conducted and the students of this course were got placement in S2M Healthcare, Episource and Omega Healthcare at Chennai.
In Collaboration with JCI Sakthi Kamarajar Virudhunagar, Career Development Programme was conducted on “Future Challenges for Youth” on 9th September 2022 for Microbiology Students.
Microbiology Department was completed its 25 years (1998-2023) and celebrated Silver Jubilee) in the Academic year 2022-2023.
As a part of silver Jubilee celebration, the Campus Company “COME-AUR-CUT COMPOS” was launched on 29.10.2022.
State level Intercollegiate Meet "MICMEET 2023" on "Futuristic Microbes on Earth" was organized by Department of Microbiology on 24.02.2023.
Field Visit to Deva Sea Foods, Tuticorin & JEYPEE FARMS, Virudhunagar for our First year students in the academic year 2022-2023 to gain the practical knowledge of Microbiology.
In Collaboration with JCI Sakthi Kamarajar Virudhunagar (NGO), Compost packs were donated to Village farmers at Chatrareddiyapatti under 2022-2023 Extension activity.
In Collaboration with Millet Promotional Society (NGO), Compost packs were donated to Village farmers at Pavali under 2023-2024 Extension activity.
Our Microbiology Department organized a Guest Lecture on “Insights into the regulatory role of small non – coding RNA in Microbes” on 21.07.2023.

MoU is signed with Meditech solutions , Coimbatore for conducting medical coding training classes in healthcare field for Life Science students of our College for the period of three years (From 2022 to 2025).
MediTech Solutions gives Hand on Training to students in the areas of expertise in the field of medical coding.

COME-AUR-CUT COMPOS - Come! Cut Pollution, Cultivate Sustainability

OBJECTIVES

To provide gainful environmental employment for the weaker section of the women folk using the unusual resources.
To reduce the kitchen wastes in college Hostel through Composting.
To help campuses meet their sustainability & zero waste goals as well.
To divert natural resources from disposal, create healthy soils and organic matter and mitigate climate change through compost.

FUNCTIONS
COME-AUR-CUT COMPOS as a campus company plays an important role in enhancing the student entrepreneurial skills. This company provides an opportunity for the students to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills they have acquired in campus to real world situations. This start-up provides a platform to convert their novel ideas in to commercial Agricultural products. Start-up students prepare organic compost packs to mete out the needs of the farmers . They also create awareness on usage of compost through playing Dramas and displaying models to the farmers of nearby village as a apart of extension activity. This Company runs with the efforts of UG final year students. Students take up various roles such as CEO, Financial manager, Production manager, Purchasing manager, Marketing manager, Sales manager, and Stock maintenance manager which help them to fine-tune their skills in various aspects. These acquired skills help them to become successful entrepreneurs.

HISTORY
The Department of Microbiology ventured into a new era of student startup "COME-AUR-CUT COMPOS" since 2022. Under Silver Jubilee celebrations of our department, We conducted a Entrepreneurial skill development programme on 29.08.2022 which was inaugurated by Dr.J.Binu Jacob ,Founder & CEO of Kapikapa International Farms & Polymers, Andhra pradesh. He motivated the students to start small company of their own. He encouraged the students to build up leadership, innovation and creation to run the company. Under the guidance of ELLIS BIOTECH, Erode , we started the Campus compost company. This startup has been functioning successfully as a campus company to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, with entrepreneurial spirit resulting in the development of a plethora of unique and impactful Agricultural products. This significant journey induces the student's creativity, perseverance and deep commitment to make them entrepreneurs in future.
