History of the Department

The Department of Information Technology was conceived and established in the year 2000 to meet the demands for well qualified computer professionals.
It has a good organizational structure that can respond dynamically to the evolution in IT industry. It also aims to produce globally competitive and socially sensitized graduates.
Course structure was in a way that helps the student to emerge as good software professional. The Department has well qualified and vibrant faculty dedicated for the betterment of the students by providing quality education in the domain of Computer Science.
The Department is provided with a well-equipped computer lab with latest configuration. The Labs are installed with broad-band internet facility.
The annual intake of the department is about 40 students. The department ensures that the program objectives are met and the learning outcomes are monitored through periodical tests and assignments.
The Department of Information Technology also offers a University Affiliated Diploma Course in Desktop Publishing.

Highlights

Association In-charge staff is allotted for both UG and PG Program separately.
Students Secretary for UG and PG programs are also allotted every year, choosing one eligible student from the outgoing batch.
Every year an Association Meeting is organized by the department for both UG and PG students to impart the knowledge of current trends to the students.
Students are encouraged and given full support to participate in intercollegiate meet organized by various colleges.
Intercollegiate meet is organized in our college exclusively by the UG and PG students that prove their organizing skills.
Workshop is arranged every year for the students to have knowledge on current trends.
Students are motivated to participate in online courses such as NPTEL and other courses offered free.
Alumnae guest lecture is arranged for the welfare of the students.
To promote the ICT tools quiz and assignment test are done through Google Class Rooms.

Python Framework Workshop, Guest lecture on Recent Trends on Machine learning has been organized for both UG and PG Students.
Our students gave awareness program on the topic “Cyber Women” for rural students of higher secondary schools around Virudhunagar district in connection with women’s day celebration.
Guest Lectures Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking, Usage of Python Programming, Recent Trends in Technologies, Introduction to MS-Office and a Workshop Data Analytics using R has been organized for the benefit of students.
Intra Departmental level Skill Development Workshops such as Project Competencies and IoT Features, Data Science using R has been organized to enhance the project skills of students.

Faculty Achievements

Mrs.A.Bhararthi Lakshmi has been awarded doctorate in the year 2020. Has been a resource person for International Webinar on “Parallel Computing” Organized by the Department of Computer Applications, Holy Cross College of Management and Technology on 30th September 2020. Presented a paper titled “PSNR based optimization applied to Maximum a posteriori Expectation Maximization for Image Reconstruction on a multi-core system” in Online International Conference-Applied Soft Computing Techniques at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Krishnankoil on 30.06.2020. She has published 5 Journals and presented 6 Papers in National and International Level Conferences.
Mrs.D.Shunmuga Kumari has been awarded a Doctorate in the year 2023. She also published a paper entitled “Survey on Intelligent Approach of Content Based Image Retrieval and Classifications” in the journal of European Journal of Molecular & Clinical Medicine. In addition to this she has published 3 Journals. She has been a resource person for State Level Seminar on “Impact of Data Science” organized by the Department of Computer Science, Madura College, Madurai on 10/02/2020.
Mrs.G.Chandraprabha presented and published articles in the topic “Digital Management” and “Programme and Project Management” on 21.8.2019 and 24.8.2019 at International conference Futuristic Vision in Functional Management for Global Green Economy, Organized by the Department of Commerce, V.V.Vanniaperumal College for Women, Virudhunagar. She has published 2 Journals and presented 2 papers in International Level Conferences.
