Department of Costume Design & Fashion

Vision
  • To sculpt the young minds with a sense of imaginative and creative thinking and to empower them as successful professionals and entrepreneurs in Textiles and Fashion Designing.
Mission
  • To nurture the inherent talents and impart the knowledge of fashion by exposing the students to new dimensional ideas in the fields of Fashion, Textile, Design and Management.
  • To promote technical and professional skills to suit the needs of the industry and community.
History of the Department
  • Department of Costume Design and Fashion offers a UG Programme and a Diploma Programme, with the aim of bringing out the creativity and entrepreneur skills of the students.
  • Bachelor of Science in Costume Design and Fashion is a three year degree course, started in the year 2014 - 2015 and Diploma in Fashion and Apparel Designing is a one year course, started in the year 2007-2008.
Highlights of the Department
  • Well-stacked department library with 124 books and a magazine.
  • Well equipped with various laboratories namely Textile testing lab, Garment construction lab, Draping lab and Fashion illustration lab.
  • Various competitions were conducted in order to encourage and motivate the students to bring out their talents.
  • Conducts exhibitions to promote marketing skills and to exhibit the talents of the students every year.
  • Arranges industrial visits to the units like spinning mills, weaving units, dyeing and printing units in order to impart visual knowledge to the students.
  • Imparts entrepreneurial skills to the students, housewives and self help group women.
  • To encourage activity based learning such as peer teaching, literary display, seminar and assignments.

  • The Department of Costume Design and Fashion organized a workshop entitled “PROPORTION AND SHADING” on 19.12.19 & 20.12.19 for the students of I, II and III B.Sc Costume Design and Fashion.
  • The Department of Costume Design and Fashion and Department of Home science organized a workshop entitled “RUSH TO BRUSH” on 27.10.2020 for the students of III B.Sc Costume Design and Fashion.
  • Every year the Thozhi Fashion Boutique organizes an Annual Fashion Contest for the students of I, II and III B.Sc Costume Design and Fashion. They are honored by giving the best valuable prizes for preparing the innovative products.
  • The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has started a Start-up company – (2019) “Trendy Turn” in order to develop the entrepreneurial skill of the students. In this company the students have invested the capital amount of their own and are creating many innovative products regularly and sell them successfully.
  • The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has conducted an alumnae meet.
