Vision
  • To sculpt the young minds with a sense of imaginative and creative thinking and to empower them with technical and professional skills to suit the needs of the industry and community.
Mission
  • To impart knowledge in various dimensions in the field of Fashion, Textile and Apparel Design, mould them into successful professionals and entrepreneurs in Fashion world and to nurture their social skills and moral values for becoming better citizens.
History of the Department
  • Department of Costume Design and Fashion offers a UG Programme and a Diploma Programme, with the aim of bringing out the creativity and entrepreneur skills of the students.
  • Bachelor of Science in Costume Design and Fashion is a three year degree course, started in the year 2017 - 2018 and Diploma in Fashion and Apparel Designing is a one year course, started in the year 2007-2008.
  • The Department of Costume Design and Fashion also offers a University Affiliated Diploma Course in Fashion and Apparel Designing.
Highlights of the Department
  • Well-equipped laboratories namely Textile Testing Lab, Garment Construction Lab, Draping Lab and Fashion Illustration Lab
  • A well-stacked library in the Department with books, magazines and a journal
  • Conducts various competitions that encourage the students to showcase their talents
  • Organises of Exhibitions and Fairs every year to promote marketing skills of the students
  • Arranges industrial visits to the Units like spinning mills, weaving units, dyeing units and printing units for providing students with an insight into real working environment
  • Kindles the entrepreneurial aspirations of the students, housewives and self-help group women
  • Organises workshops to unlock the entrepreneurial potentials of the students
  • Organizes Annual Fashion Contest every year in collaboration with the Thozhi Fashion Boutique, Virudhunagar to motivate the students to create innovative products
  • Runs a Start-up Company – “Trendy Turn” from 2019 with the capital amount of the students and provides a platform to sell their innovative products and to exhibit the creativity and entrepreneurial skills of the students
  • Alumnae contributes their expertise in alumnae meet every year
  • Encourages activity-based learning such as peer teaching, literary display, seminar and assignments

  • The core mission of the student-led startup Trendy Turn - Giving Joy of Creativity is to provide customers with a diverse range of home furnishing products, costumes, and fashionable accessories.
  • Every year, a team of students willing to run the startup company join together as student-investors by contributing a minimal amount.
  • The Market research, a foundational step to understand current trends and consumer preferences is to be carried out for choosing the list of items for production.
  • Product development begins by designing unique and appealing items that align with identified market demands.
  • Innovation plays a crucial role, often involving the use of sustainable materials and cutting-edge design concepts.
  • Prototyping and testing are integral to ensure product quality and functionality.

Genesis
        The Department of Costume Design and Fashion is keen on generating employment opportunities of students by up skilling their entrepreneurial abilities. It takes ventures to transform them from job-seekers to entrepreneurs by exploring ample sources of knowledge technology, and support facilities. The start-up is an initiative that strengthens the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. It endeavours to inspire the student community to emerge as successful student--entrepreneurs. The Department takes efforts to hone students' skills, render support and monitor their performance. One of the greatest initiatives of the Department is establishing collaboration with the best organizations in Garment Industry for giving firsthand experience with machines and tools in production and marketing as Interns. This industrial training on Garment Production and Boutique Management facilitates the students to bring out their innate talents, innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills through establishing a startup company.
        The Department of Costume Design and Fashion launched a startup Trendy Turn - Giving Joy of Creativity in 2019. This startup aims to provide hands-on learning opportunities for aspiring student entrepreneurs. It facilitates them to express their creativity and showcase their artistic skills. Students are trained to prepare a diverse range of home furnishing products, costumes and accessories. They are able to experiment with different materials, designs, and styles to create unique and eye-catching products. This creative outlet cultivates entrepreneurial traits and allows students to explore their passion for design and aesthetics. They learn to overcome challenges, adapt to changing circumstances, and believe in their abilities to achieve success in future. Through this journey, student entrepreneurs develop a strong sense of self-confidence and personal growth.
