Department of Chemistry (UG)

Vision

  • The vision of the department is to empower rural young women through quality chemistry education.

Mission

  • Offering learners deep knowledge in theoretical and practical chemistry.
  • Facilitating learners to recognize the applications of chemistry in everyday life to progress as entrepreneurs.
  • Sharpening analytical and soft skills of the learners for their profession development.

History of the Department

The Department of Chemistry became a full-fledged department with the beginning of degree course in the year 1977. The Department offers B.Sc. (Chemistry) under the Choice Based Credit and Semester System with Mathematics/Botany and Physics as allied courses. It has 42 golden years of glorious history to its credit. This is one of the largest science departments of the college with a well equipped laboratory, furnished storeroom and three spacious classrooms.

Highlights

  • Introduction of environment friendly microscale experiments in organic analysis to reduce pollution and requirement of chemicals.
  • Harvesting rain water in chemistry laboratory and demineralising it using ion-exchanger for usage as distilled water in science laboratories.
  • Presenting papers at Regional, National and International level conferences by the faculty members .
  • Visiting various industries as field trips.
  • Celebrating National days by students under the guidance of the faculty.
  • Organising Interdepartmental course on "Processing of consumer products".
  • Encouraging students to undergo summer training projects/ workshops in various scientific institutions.
  • Exposing the students to the latest trends in chemistry by organizing a series of guest lecturers every academic year.
